Tips for School Success!

  • Keep all your papers and books together in a backpack so when you move you have everything you need or ask a teacher to find a place to store them at school.

  • Remember to ask your teacher for bus tokens or a monthly fast pass to stay in the same school if you move during the year.
  • If you miss school because your family moves, ask for make up work.
  • If you know you are going to move, get your bus tokens in advance from student services and ask for bus route schedules so you do not miss school.
  • Ask for the school handbook and know the rules when you enroll in a new school.
  • Take charge and schedule an appointment with your school counselor- they can find options to help you stay in school and be successful.
  • Find a teacher you like and talk with her or him. Students who are successful have connected with at least one caring adult.
  • Call the Families in Transition Program at 415-695-5569 if you cannot find a teacher or adult at your site. They will link you to an adult who may be able to help.
